Job Description:

The Operations Engineer will be intimately familiar with the various technologies involved in Plug & Abandonment operations and will become familiar with the other services lines within Abrado.

The Operations Engineer will offer technical assistance to the field to optimize Fishing & Milling operational practices, processes and procedures using special tools or techniques that are best suited to the particular situation, whether available in-house or outsourced. The Operations Engineer will also coordinate with the Manufacturing and Engineering departments to improve the local design and manufacture of tool components to Abrado specifications and Industry best practices. This position is critical to our efforts to cultivate the corporate culture of doing the right things and doing things right.

Travel is an essential job function (domestic and offshore). Potential to travel 20% - 40% of the time to any location where we provide services around the world.


Undergraduate degree in Technical, Science or Engineering related field.

Core duties/responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and adoption of the Abrado continuous improvement culture by actively promoting Quality Management principles, concepts and best practices.
  • Lead any activities to establish an action plan for improving the quality of the services and products that we deliver to our customers.
  • Provide Engineering support to Field Engineers and Supervisors to improve operational performance at the wellsite.
  • Collect and analyze data from operations to identify trends and improve future performance.
  • Develop, improve, manage, communicate and report Operational related Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that support the overall goals and objectives of the company.
  • Reduce the effect of non-conforming products and develop quality tools to reduce quality risks.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis on operations where the outcome was less than satisfactory.
  • Liaise with Engineering to prepare detailed specifications and operating envelopes for tools and equipment.
  • Prepare written assembly and operating instructions for tools and equipment.
  • Liaise with Engineering to improve material selection, fabrication and welding procedures for new equipment.
  • Work with Sales to prepare cost estimates, tender responses and job proposals.

Core competencies:

  • 3+ years of field work in the oil and gas industry
  • 3+ years’ progressive work experience performing professional level engineering duties in oil and gas industry
  • Technical expertise with downhole tools and equipment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Able to communicate effectively in a business environment, including speaking, reading and writing.
